621 Gallery Presents:
an exhibition by: Dana Robinson
Exhibition Dates | September 6th – 28th, 2018
Through Robinson illustrates the ability to be youthful regardless of age and the endless freedom that is embroiled in that prospect. Her ability to combine and recombine the everyday objects that blend into the background of our lives allows the intended purpose of these them to be broken, realigned and set into new meanings. By allowing the original structures of her materials to fragment into draping folds, fibers and lines, the surface of these pieces are given the ability to come alive with interweaving patterns and the intimacy of home and self.
I combine and recombine the everyday objects that blend into the background of our lives, and I allow their intended purpose to be broken, realigned and set into new meanings. The mantra stating our freedom to change, regardless of what we were yesterday is ingrained in my process. Through the questioning of these objects and materials, I ask the viewer to question themselves and their own intentions. I accept the array of symbols and materials, and accentuate the vein that unites these diverse elements. Ultimately I invite the viewer to evaluate their own contradictions that make them who they are.
