Rates

Bring Tallahassee to life through form and color in this outdoor on-site painting class. Acrylic, oil paint and pastel are acceptable media to learn or practic in this evening class for all skill levels. Each meeting will take the class to a different area of Railroad Square to paint from life while beginners can investigate the principles of plein-air painting in a quickly changing environment. Aluminum easels and seats cannot be provided, but participants will be given a recommended supply list upon registration.

Paint + Sip

Rates

This class is intended to be a more individual and liberated alternative to cookie cutter style paint & sips! All skill levels are allowed in this indoor eventing mixed media class as participants will create their own works of art based off collage and observational still lives. The focus is on getting loose and creating work in a care free environment where guidance is also given on the basics of drawing, painting, and composition.

Poetry & Performance

Rates

This course draws upon a diverse range of contemporary poetry to inspire beginners and experts alike to test their boundaries and write orignial poetry. The class includes a “performance” component, giving participants the opportunity to hone the presentation of their work. The instructor, Aaron Ellis, has taught this class in multiple settings including at Gadsden Women’s Correctional Facility and at New College of Florida. At the end of the course, a final zine/publication/performance, for the group and/or for individual participants, is a possibility, depending on participant interest.

Beginner Sumi-e

Rates

Sumi-e’ means Ink Painting in Japanese. Ins sumi-e’ there are four strokes that you learn: bamboo, wild orchid, chrysanthemum and cragy branches with plum blossoms. Each stroke builds off the previous. I propose to present a “taste” of this ancient art-form in 4 individual classes. Classes must be taken in sequence. The classes will consist of an introduction, demonstration, instruction and continued study of the stroke. A the end of each session students will mount and complete a Sumie’ painting with signature and seal in that stroke. 

Figure Drawing

Rates

Figure Drawing is one of the basic building blocks of the artistic practice. This class will be held for 3 hour sessions, with a live model that will sit in 20 minute incorments. You will learn how to do gesture drawings, and map out the under drawings liek the master painters. By the end of this 6 week course we will be doing 3 hour pose drawings to perfect our skills. Baker has 18 years of figure drawing experience.

Body Scripting

Rates

This class offers a creative and fun way to generate art through the medium of the body and repurposed materials. The instructor guide the students through movement exploration exercises, followed by free flow art making using repurposed materials to generate a “Self Portrait” inspired by the information accessed through the movement explorations. Each class will end with a sharing circle. The heart of the class is centered with the intention to create, connect, support, and hold space for self and others. All other movement is created by and can be adapted for individual. Students will need to bring a water bottle, clothes that are comfortable to move in, keeping in mind they will also be art making in the same clothes.

Devised Theatre

Rates

Devised Theatre is a process used to create theatrical work.  All participants are involved in creating the performance, based on their own personal experiences, research, and interests.  This process encourages self-exploration, as well as group collaboration. Participants will create work through the Devising process.  A public presentation of individual and/or group work is possible, depending on participant interest. The instructor, Aaron Ellis, has performed in and directed several Devised performances, including directing for FSU School of Theatre’s New Horizons annual festival for original work.

We understand that changes arise in scheduling and therefore cancellations will be accepted two weeks before the start of the paid for session and will be reimbursed half the fee. After two weeks, cancellations forfeit the entire session fee. If less than 4 students sign up for a class, the class will be canceled with full reimbursement to participants.
