After 2 successful shows at the Florida State Museum of Art and Bird’s Aphrodisiac

Shack, Glitter Chariot returns to the Tallahassee area for 1st Friday at Railroad Square

in the 621 Gallery. The group will be back together for a week of workshopping songs

for an upcoming record and performances in New Orleans, Los Angeles and New York

and will be highlighting some of the songs in a new sculpture/performance during 1st

Friday.

Entitled Magnificent Obsession: Scene One, Glitter Chariot promises a night of deep

and touching songs about love and the loss often associated with it. The songs are

inspired by the continued exploration into melodramas of the 1950s and in particular

those of the master Douglas Sirk, from which the title is derived.

Exhibition Season Opens September 2, 2011

The 621 Gallery 2011/12 exhibition season opens on First Friday, September 2, with two artists who explore the natural world: Texas artist, Robin Germany’s, Two Worlds Apart, with color photographs that are split between the known environment and the unexpected world below the water line (www.robingermany.com). New Hampshire based artist Lynn Richardson’s large-scale installations that investigate the complex consequences of environmental disaster (www.lynnrichardson.ca).

621′s Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery features New Orleans – Six Years On, a benefit for Global Green’s New Orleans, Build it Back Green and benefit for New Orleans Habitat for Humanity, project, with a sale of large-scale photographs of Katrina-ravaged houses by local artist/photographers Tyler and Lane Turkle (Visit here for more info).

In October 621 Gallery will hold the 17th Art Auction, with the Silent Auction opening on First Friday, October 7th, 6-9pm; a Happy Hour Auction Preview event on Thursday, October 13, 5:30-7:00pm, and the Live Auction on Saturday, October 15th , 5:30 – 9:30, with heavy appetizers, refreshments, entertainment and an exciting line-up of fabulous art for your bidding pleasure!

The Gallery is closed in July and August, with the exception of CAMP 621, which will be held August 1-19.

The 621 Gallery will resume regular operation on First Friday, September 2, 6-9pm, with two solo exhibitions: Underwater, ‘split’ photographs by Texas artist, Robin Germany, and large scale Installations by New Hampshire artist, Lynn Richardson.

In the Nan Boynton Memorial Gallery is a benefit exhibit: New Orleans, Six Years On, with photographs of Katrina ravaged homes by local artists Tyler Turkle and Lane Turkle. Sales of photos will benefit New Orleans Habitat for Humanity and Build It Back Green New Orleans.

Please note that regulare Gallery hours are Thursday - Sunday, 1-5pm.

It is our great pleasure to present the works of Arthur Deshaies. Former Florida State University professor, he is a highly regarded painter and printmaker with an impressive number of exhibitions to his credit and a host of works in major public and private collections. In his work Deshaies attempts to achieve a state of “dismemberment and discontinuity” for “disinventing” art. The exhibit opens June 3rd at 6pm. April 621 Salon

Third in the new series, 621 Salon at 621 Gallery, will be on Sunday, April 17th, from 4-6 at 621 Industrial Drive in Railroad Square. April is National Poetry Month and to pay homage to verse and its poets, our theme for this month’s reading is Favorite Poems. Organized my Anhinga Press and Apalachee Review, readers will include Melanie Abrams, Rick Campbell, Carol Lynne Knight, Kathleen Laufenberg, Pete LaForge, Amanda McCormick, Anne Meizenthal, Jeff Peters, Kati Schardl, Jay and Kristine Snodgrass, Joann Gardner and others. 621 presents “Barks and Squeals” for First Friday, June 3rd. A multimedia romp exploring man’s fragile relationship with nature. Works to shown by Celina Dezzuto, Ashley Ivey, Bill Rice, and Chris Cameron. The exhibit runs from June 3rd to June 24th.

Barks and Squeals, a collection of dreams and fears at the edge of the untamed, explores both the human desire to connect with the natural world and mankind’s physical inability to do so without mediation. Celina Dezzuto’s paintings depict manifestations of beauty and horror when nature enters dreams. Chris Cameron shares video works of spectral bodies performing miniature dances behind backyard fences. Sculptural works by Ashley Ivey and Bill Rice present idealized visions of cast off debris and nuisance creatures and look respectively at ideas of comfort and shelter.
