Ry McCullough

Artist Statement:

I see the residue and remnants of culture everywhere. It presses against, bumps into and piles up onto itself, over and over again. The history of humankind can never be experienced or expressed in isolation. I find the continual remixing of cultural material full of compelling contradictions, overlapping accidents, and layered poetic meaning to be a supple network from which I respond in my studio activities. My background is in printmaking and book arts; a lens of tradition by which I can explore and discover how I can be an active participant in the contemporary dialogue of a medium that has been propelled by technological discovery and application. I believe printed forms to be our link to the stories of the past and understanding their mutability as they enter unintended collisions with other forms and context. It is in this spirit that I deploy content using print, paper, and objects both found and fabricated.
